Cubing lets you probe your topic by helping you to identify six perspectives or aspects of your topic. It means that it explores, investigates your topic through the use of these perspectives: describing, comparing, associating, analyzing, applying, and arguing. This is a helpful technique as it will make you realize what things you already know, and understand those you don't.
