The singer that refused to testify before a government committee (House Committee on Un-American Activities [HUAC]) investigating anti-Communism was Pete Seeger.
Pete insisted that the HUAC did not have the right to question his political associations or belief. This resulted in the imprisonment of the Hollywood Ten in 1947.
